What is Eyelid Surgery?

Patients typically seek out eyelid surgery because they have droopy or sagging upper eyelids, have lower eyelid bags that don't disappear even after a restful sleep, or both. These conditions can lend to a tired, worn, and prematurely aged appearance, but thankfully, eyelid surgery offers a minimally invasive solution with lasting results.

About the Procedure: Eyelid surgery is typically performed under general anesthesia in an outpatient surgical facility, though, in some cases, only a light anesthesia is required. The length of the surgery is largely dependent on what specific procedures we decide are right for you, but you will be allowed to return home the same day, simply applying cooling packs to minimize swelling and discomfort. If necessary, both upper and lower eyelids can be addressed during a single surgery.

Post-Procedure Recovery: Though I exercise great care to ensure your incisions are made in locations will be inconspicuous after you heal, you will experience some swelling after your procedure. Most patients take a week off work after their procedures as swelling decreases significantly during the first week and any sutures used will also be removed during this period. After this time, hypoallergenic makeup can be worn to minimize the appearance of residual swelling and contact lenses can also be worn.

Making the Right Choice For You

With the many advances in cosmetic surgery, there are now a number of injectable non-surgical treatments that can be used to yield results similar to eyelid surgery. Whether these are appropriate for you really depends on your specific needs. During an in-person or virtual consultation, we can discuss your options and decide on a surgical or non-surgical treatment plan that is right for you.

If puffy or sagging eyelids are making you look older than you feel, don't let a fear of surgery stand in your way - there may be a non-surgical option to achieve your goals.
