A breast lift, or Mastopexy, raises the breasts by removing the stretched or excess tissue and contouring the breast into a lifted, perky, and youthful position. The size of the areola and orientation of the nipple are also addressed during the breast lift procedure.
As women age, gravity, pregnancy and childbirth, weight loss, genetic factors and a host of other reasons cause their breasts to lose their youthful, full appearance. Sagging, droopy breasts can make you feel much older and less attractive. Breast lift surgery can restore the appearance of your breasts by repositioning them higher on your chest and adding the fullness that has been lost with time. Sometimes, our Knoxville breast lift is combined with a small breast augmentation for an even better rejuvenation of your figure.
W hat is a Breast Lift?
A breast lift is a surgical procedure that reshapes and supports the breasts by removing loose, stretched-out skin. Unlike an augmentation, which changes size, a lift focuses on perkiness, repositioning the breast tissue and the nipple higher on the chest for a firmer, more athletic appearance.
Breast Lift At A Glance
A breast lift provides a structural reset for your figure. While some patients think they need implants to look fuller, a lift often reveals that they already have plenty of natural volume, it just needs to be moved back to the right neighborhood.
W hat Causes Breast Ptosis?
Ptosis is the medical term for sagging. It is a natural part of life for many women. The primary cause is the stretching of the Cooper's Ligaments, which act like internal straps that hold your breast tissue up.
Several factors can lead to this stretching over time. Gravity is a constant force, pulling on the weight of the breast tissue every day. Pregnancy and nursing also play a role, as the fluctuations in size stretch the skin out like a balloon. Once the volume decreases, the skin often doesn't snap back into place. Significant weight changes and simple genetics also determine how quickly your skin loses its elasticity.
When the majority of the breast tissue sits below the crease under the breast, it can feel heavy or uncomfortable. A lift moves this mass higher up, creating a more balanced profile.
If the nipples sit below the breast crease or point toward the floor, a lift is the only way to physically move them back to the center of the breast mound.
After weight loss or breastfeeding, the top half of the breast often looks flat. By stacking the existing tissue, our surgeons can restore a rounded, fuller look to the top of the breast without always needing an implant.
It is very common for one breast to sag more than the other. We can customize the lift on each side to make the breasts look more like sisters rather than strangers.
You may be a candidate for a breast lift procedure if you are healthy, don’t smoke, and:
Discuss your expectations.

Carry out a physical exam.
Dr. Hall will examine your chest to determine the best treatment options for you.
The journey starts with a very honest conversation in our Knoxville office. Dr. Hall or Dr. Walker will listen to your goals and examine your tissue quality. One of the most helpful things we do is a manual lift in front of a mirror.
Your surgeon will show you exactly where your nipples will sit and how much fullness you can expect. We will also discuss if you need an implant (augmentation) to reach your goals or if a lift alone will give you the look you want.
A breast lift is done in an outpatient surgery center while you are asleep. A typical breast lift surgery lasts 2-3 hours, and you will go home later that day. Dr. Hall will discuss with you how the incisions will be made before surgery to minimize their visibility.
There are typically no drainage tubes or other complicated dressings for you to worry about. Occasionally, Dr. Hall will recommend a breast implant or the addition of your own body fat (“fat grafting”) to enhance the upper part of your breast, which tends to “deflate” over time.
We require that any patient interested in receiving a procedure from renowned breast lift surgeon, Dr. Jason J. Hall, have an initial consultation prior to the surgery.
D r. Hall will recommend the best type of breast lift for you, based on factors like the amount of skin to be removed, how much breast tissue is available, and the look you want to achieve.
Crescent lift
This technique is suitable for women with small breasts, or very little sagging. The name is derived from the act of making a small incision halfway around the top edge of the areola. In most cases, a crescent lift is used if the breast lift is accompanied by breast augmentation.
Periareolar or "Donut" Breast Lift
For women with mild sagging, a periareolar incision is most effective. A circular incision is made at the edge of the areola and can help in reducing its size. The scar is very difficult to see, as it corresponds to the edge of the areola.
Vertical "Lollipop" Breast Lift
For moderate sagging, this type of lift makes it possible to remove any excess skin and give the breasts a new shape without leaving noticeable scars. One incision is made around the areola and another incision from the bottom of the areola to the fold beneath your breast.
Wise Pattern Teddy Bear or Anchor Breast Lift
For more extensive sagging, an inverted T lift facilitates removing significant amounts of excess skin and loose tissue. Three incisions are made, one around the areola, another vertically from the bottom of the areola to the fold under your breast, and one along the fold. This incision is best for more extensive lifts.
T he cost for a breast lift will vary depending on whether or not implants are used and whether any other procedures are done at the same time. Breast lifts typically start at $10,950 and breast lifts with implant removal start at $12,250.
Additional information:
Restrictions:
Breast lift scars depend on the amount of lift and which of type of incisions are required.
Patients will want to delay buying new bras/swimsuits for 6-8 weeks (breasts will be swollen).
Patients will see a change in the height of their breasts immediately after surgery, though it takes time for the final look to arrive. During the first month, the breasts will initially sit very high on the chest and may look slightly tight. This is a normal part of the healing process as the internal tissues begin to knit together.
Between three and six months, patients enter the settling phase. This is when the tissue softens, and the breasts drop into a natural, teardrop shape. While the results are permanent, the body will continue to age naturally. Maintaining a stable weight and wearing a supportive bra will help keep your results looking crisp for many years to come.

A lift removes skin, not tissue, so your breasts will weigh about the same. However, because the tissue is now lifted and firmer, many women find they fill out their bras better or may move into a slightly different cup size because the shape has changed.
Yes. This is a very common combination called an "Augmentation-Mastopexy." It allows us to lift the breast and add extra volume in one single surgery and recovery period.
While every surgery leaves a mark, Dr. Hall uses advanced techniques to place incisions where they can be hidden by a bra or swimsuit. Over the first year, these lines typically fade from red to a faint white that blends with the skin.
Most of our Knoxville patients take about one week off for their initial recovery. If your job involves heavy lifting, you may need more time, but if you work at a desk, a week is usually plenty.
In most cases, the milk ducts and nerves are left intact, meaning many women can still breastfeed. However, we usually suggest waiting until you are finished having children before getting a lift to ensure your results aren't stretched out by a future pregnancy.
