What is Chin Surgery?

Knoxville chin surgery patients generally receive chin enhancement via one of two methods: placement of an implant next to the chin bone, or movement of the chin itself. Dr. Hall will make a determination of the best method for you based on your specific needs.

Generally speaking, you are a good candidate for chin surgery if you are in good health and:

  • Want additional definition between your neck and chin
  • Would like a stronger, more pronounced chin
  • Have a chin you feel is too pronounced
  • Have a cleft chin and would prefer not to
  • Would like to lengthen the appearance of your lower chin

Prior to surgery, Dr. Hall will use the Vectra 3D imaging system to provide a realistic projection of your appearance afterwards. The surgical procedure itself is relatively simple, being performed under general anesthesia in an outpatient surgery center and taking an average of less than two hours, though it can vary depending on the specifics of your procedure.

What to Expect After Your Procedure

Chin surgery is a comparatively minor procedure and you'll be allowed to go home the same day your operation is performed, simply applying cooling packs to your face to help minimize swelling, bruising, and discomfort. Generally speaking, restrictions post-procedure are minimal, only necessitating that you refrain from eating crunchy foods (if the incision is placed inside your mouth).

Patients are more apt to take time off work because of the bruising and swelling that follows the procedure. Thankfully, these decrease significantly in the first week, and if any sutures are used, they are typically removed after only 5 days, although swelling can last up to two weeks. If you're currently unhappy with your chin, this short time in recovery is a small price for the lifetime of increased confidence you'll enjoy afterward.
